Heinrich Friedrich Wilhelm Perizonius

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinrich Friedrich Wilhelm Perizonius (born May 8, 1802 in Thuine ; † April 11, 1895 in Detmold ) was a theologian who taught as a private teacher in the East Frisian Rheiderland (primarily in Weener ).

Life

Heinrich Friedrich Wilhelm Perizonius studied Protestant theology in Bonn and Halle from 1821 to 1825 and then settled in Weener, where he ran a private school. From 1849 to 1852 he also taught at the Sunday School for Craftsmen, the forerunner of the trade school that opened in Weener in 1855. At the end of the 1860s he withdrew into private life due to increasing hearing loss and began to write an "East Frisian story".

effect

Perizonius is known to this day for the "East Frisian History" he wrote, which was published in four volumes in 1868 and 1869 by the Risius publishing house in Weener. Up to 1815 he orientated himself on the works of Tileman Dothias Wiarda and Onno Klopp . The subsequent depiction of the Hanoverian era (1815–1866) is closely based on an anonymous work published in 1867, which examines this period very critically. The polemical ideas of this book shaped the East Frisian view of history for a long time through its uncritical adoption, as corrective follow-up work was a long time coming.
