Heinrich Garve

Ferdinand Carl Heinrich Christian Garve (born October 5, 1845 in Hamburg ; † May 4, 1900 there ) was a German cigar worker and social democrat .

Heinrich Garve has been writing for the Hamburg-Altonaer Volksblatt since it was founded in October 1875 . The Hamburg cooperative, which ran the socialist printing company, officially published the newspaper. Garve also took the functions as a clerk of the sheet was and was as a cashier board member of the cooperative. The political police in Hamburg saw him as a "publisher". He also worked for the social democratic court newspaper.

When the minor state of siege was declared in October 1880 , Garve had to leave Hamburg due to work at the newspaper. The editorial office relocated to Harburg , where Garve also moved. He made his apartment available as party headquarters. He then went to Lübeck for a short time and emigrated from there to the USA . Here he took American citizenship. After returning to Hamburg in 1888, he was initially only little politically active; he was denied German citizenship until 1894.

Heinrich Grave died on May 4, 1900 after a serious illness in his hometown.
