Henry III. von Braunschweig-Grubenhagen (* 1416 , † 1464 ), from the family of the Guelphs , was Prince of Braunschweig-Grubenhagen .

Life

Heinrich was the eldest son of Erich I von Braunschweig-Grubenhagen and Elisabeth von Braunschweig-Göttingen, a daughter of Otto the Quaden , Duke of Braunschweig-Göttingen. He followed after the death of his father in 1427, together with his younger brothers Ernst and Albrecht . Until he came of age, in 1437, he was under the guardianship of Duke Otto II of Braunschweig-Grubenhagen-Osterode. In 1447 a feud broke out between Heinrich and Landgrave Ludwig I of Hesse, who was allied with the Archbishop of Mainz and the Duke of Göttingen . Ludwig and his allies besieged Grubenhagen Castle , but had to withdraw despite the use of two guns. An attack on Salzderhelden was also unsuccessful. Heinrich died in 1464 and is buried in the Alexander monastery in Einbeck. His son Heinrich followed him.

Before June 27, 1457 Heinrich married Margarete (* 1415/25; † May 9, 1497), a daughter of the Sagan Duke Johann I and the Scholastika von Sachsen-Wittenberg. He was her third husband. They had two sons

  • Heinrich (* 1460; † 1526) ∞ Elisabeth von Sachsen-Lauenburg († after April 7, 1542), daughter of Johann IV. Duke of Sachsen-Lauenburg.
