Heinrich Köbner (born December 2, 1838 in Breslau , † September 3, 1904 in Berlin ) was a German dermatologist . He is one of the founders of dermatology in Germany and described the isomorphic stimulus effect, also known as the "Koebner phenomenon" or "Koebner effect" .

Life

Köbner studied medicine in Breslau and Berlin from 1855 to 1859. In 1859 he received his doctorate in Breslau with the thesis physiological-chemical investigations on cane sugar digestion . After stays in Vienna with Ferdinand von Hebra and in Paris, Köbner founded the “Dr. Köbner Institute for Skin and Venereal Diseases ”, the first polyclinic for dermatology in Germany. In 1869 Köbner completed his habilitation , in 1872 he was appointed associate professor at the newly established chair for dermatology at the University of Breslau .

For many years he tried to found an independent university skin clinic in Wroclaw. The clinic was finally established in 1877 (other information: 1876) and Köbner was its director for a short time. Health problems and longer stays at health resorts ultimately forced him to resign from his professorship and to move to Berlin in 1877. In 1884 he founded a dermatology clinic there too. The Leopoldina elected Köbner as a member in 1893, and in 1897 he was appointed to the Secret Medical Council.

His son was the administrative lawyer Otto Max Köbner .

Act

One of the main interests included not only the Koebner syphilis and psoriasis (psoriasis) and the leprosy . He published numerous papers on these and other dermatological topics.

At a meeting of the “Medical Section of the Silesian Society for Culture” in 1872, Köbner first described the appearance of typical efflorescences after unspecific irritation of the skin of patients suffering from psoriasis. This isomorphic stimulus effect was described later in other diseases and is also known as the "Koebner phenomenon".

Together with Georg Lewin , he chaired the Berlin Dermatological Society for many years , the oldest German professional association for dermatology founded in 1886.
