Heinrich Knoche

Heinrich Knoche (born January 19, 1831 in Schmallenberg- Holthausen , † October 22, 1911 in Hüsten ) was the headmaster of the elementary school in Herdringen , Arnsberg , from 1852 to 1892 . He was the author of the six million copies of the arithmetic book for elementary schools .

Life

Heinrich Bone's father died early. His mother therefore had to raise the eight children alone. From 1847 Knoche attended the teachers' seminar in Büren . In 1852 he passed the teachers' seminar with very good grades. He then taught at the Herdringen elementary school until his retirement on October 1, 1892.

Knoche is considered to be a pioneer of the modern arithmetic instruction of the time, for which he created basic principles and teaching methods. In addition to his nationwide influence in education, he also shaped the village life in Herdringen. So he founded and directed a choral society there and initiated folk plays.

In 1892 he was awarded the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern in the form of the eagle, which was given primarily to scientists, teachers and artists. In Arnsberg-Herdringen the Heinrich Knoche School , which was built in 1972, and a street ( Heinrich Knoche Weg ) are named after him. A memorial plaque hangs on the building of the old elementary school.
