Heinrich Kockelke

Heinrich Kockelke (baptized name: Heinrich Friedrích Wilhelm) (born October 19, 1856 in Schwerte ; † October 24, 1934 in Schwelm ) was a Protestant clergyman and President of the Westphalian Provincial Synod of the Evangelical Church in Westphalia .

Life

Heinrich Kockelke was born as the son of the farmer Kaspar Kockelke and his wife Henriette Schulte. On October 6, 1885, he married Julie Emile Petermann (1859-1931). The marriage produced four children, including Heinrich (born March 18, 1891, lawyer).

After visiting the school Burgsteinfurt studied Heinrich Kockelke at the Universities of Tübingen , Berlin and Bonn theology . After the first theological exam, he was initially employed in the Rauhen Haus Hamburg (institution of the Diakonie). The second exam was taken on April 25, 1882 in Münster. In October 1882 he was first appointed as Synodal Vicar in Witten , followed by ordination on October 27th . In October 1883 he worked as a pastor in Tornow and Reppen . Here he was also the spiritual inspector of the Friedrichswille workers' colony. Following this activity he was given the position of third pastor in Schwelm in 1887. After he was appointed second pastor in 1901, he became the first pastor of this Lutheran congregation in 1914 . From 1904 to 1927 Kockelke was superintendent of the Schwelm church district . His election as President of the Westphalian Provincial Synod fell on November 25, 1914. He remained in this office until he was retired on November 1, 1927.

Others

The two years of work in the Rauhen Haus in Hamburg shaped him so much that he developed a special heart for the work of the Inner Mission. In 1889 he founded the Evangelical Workers' Association in Schwelm . He was chairman of the Association of Evangelical Parish Associations in Germany.

Honor

On October 31, 1917, he was awarded an honorary theological doctorate by the University of Münster .
