Heinrich Kreft (born July 29, 1958 in Steinfurt ) is a German diplomat and has been ambassador to Luxembourg since September 28, 2016 .

Life

Growing up in Steinfurt , Heinrich Kreft studied political science, history, sociology and economics from 1978 to 1984 at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster, at the Juniata College in Huntingdon , Pennsylvania , as well as at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris and the institute des Hautes Etudes de l´Amérique Latine of the Sorbonne Nouvelle . With his dissertation on cooperatives in Ecuador , he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD .

Kreft first found employment in the diplomatic service in La Paz (1988–91) and Tokyo (1991–94), before he was responsible for American and Asian economic policy on the planning staff of the Foreign Office in Berlin from 1996 to 2001 . In 2001 he moved to Washington, DC , where he was initially a guest lecturer at various US think tanks such as the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and the Heritage Foundation until 2002 and was finally appointed head of economic services at the German Embassy until 2004.

Kreft spent the next ten years in Berlin, first as the deputy head of the planning team in the Foreign Office (until 2005), then as a foreign and security policy advisor for the CDU / CSU parliamentary group and finally from 2010 as an ambassador and special representative for the dialogue between the Cultures. His next assignment abroad took him to Madrid in September 2014 , where Heinrich Kreft served as envoy and deputy to the ambassador.

On July 22, 2016, he finally began his service as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, where he presented his credentials to Grand Duke Henri of Nassau on September 28, 2016 .

Private

Heinrich Kreft is married and has four children.
