Economic forum in Krynica

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Economic Forum in Krynica (Polish Forum Ekonomiczne w Krynicy ) has been held every year since 1991 at the beginning of September in the spa town of Krynica-Zdrój near Kraków . The conference was brought into being by the Polish politician Zygmunt Berdychowski and is organized by the Institute for Eastern European Studies, which he heads. The forum is aimed at politicians, business people, scientists as well as representatives from the media and NGOs. It is considered to be the most important economic conference in the region and is often referred to as "Davos East Central Europe" or "Polish Davos".

During the forum, the "Personality of the Year" is chosen, which usually generates a lot of media interest. The title is awarded by a committee of about 30 people, which consists of well-known representatives from politics and business.

The panel discussions will be interpreted simultaneously into English, Polish and Russian.

According to the organizer, over 3,500 conference guests and almost 600 journalists from all over the world took part in the 26th Economic Forum in Krynica-Zdrój in 2016.

Press reviews

"Nobody had expected that: Poland wants to join the euro zone as early as 2011, announced Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the economic forum in the health resort of Krynica. Perhaps the dynamic managers in" Davos of the East "animated him - in any case, his goal is surprisingly ambitious."

- The press , 2008

"Happy cows on lush pastures where the haysticks are already ready for the winter, clear mountain streams murmuring through wooded valleys, a graceful postcard landscape that invites you to linger - the mountain range of the Polish Beskids appears to the viewer as a place where the world is in order But the world is not okay, as the around 2500 politicians, business leaders, experts and journalists who met at the beginning of September in the pretty bathing town of Krynica-Zdroj near the Polish-Slovak border know that, because the 22nd edition of the since the collapse Communism's annual economic forum, which sometimes ambitiously describes itself as «Davos East Central Europe», had a motto that could not match the loveliness of the surroundings: «Europe and the world in the face of crisis - new visions for difficult times.» "

- Neue Zürcher Zeitung , 2012

"Here, in the health resort in the Polish Western Carpathians, a unique meeting of politicians, business representatives and scientists from Central and Eastern Europe is taking place for the 24th time. In the media, the meeting is nicknamed" Davos of the East, based on the Swiss event Zygmunt Berdychowski does not like this comparison. "Our event has its own character," says the organizer and conjures up "the spirit of Krynica". Anyone who wants to understand Eastern Europe must come here and seek a conversation between medicinal water springs and mountain huts. "

- Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , 2014

"The guest list of the three-day economic forum reads like a who's who of Eastern European politics and economy. Presidents, heads of government and ministers do the honors, as do the heads of the largest Polish companies, along with a number of prominent economists and experts."
