Gunther Krichbaum

Gunther Krichbaum (born May 4, 1964 in Korntal ) is a German politician ( CDU ). Krichbaum has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2002 . Since 2007 he has been chairman of the committee for the affairs of the European Union of the German Bundestag .

Life and work

After graduating from the Solitude-Gymnasium in Stuttgart-Weilimdorf in 1984 , Krichbaum did his military service in Sigmaringen and Dillingen / Danube and, from 1985, studied law at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen , the Ruprecht-Karls University of Heidelberg , the University of Lausanne and from the University of Geneva , which he completed in 1991 with the first state examination in law. Krichbaum received a scholarship from the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung . During his studies he became a member of the Ulmia Tübingen Landsmannschaft . After his legal clerkship , he also passed the second state examination in 1995 and then worked as an independent business consultant for MLP AG in Pforzheim until 2002 .

Krichbaum is a Protestant and has a second marriage. The Krichbaum couple each have three children from previous marriages.

politics

Krichbaum joined the Junge Union in 1979 and the CDU in 1983. From 1999 to 2009 he was deputy chairman of the CDU city association Pforzheim and has been district chairman of the CDU Enzkreis / Pforzheim since 2009. Krichbaum has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2002 and has been the deputy spokesman for European policy for the CDU / CSU parliamentary group since December 2005 . Since June 2007 he has been Chairman of the Committee on European Union Affairs .

Krichbaum has always entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the Pforzheim constituency . In his first federal election in 2002 , he was able to win back the direct mandate for the CDU, which had been lost to the SPD in 1998, against the state chairman of the SPD Baden-Württemberg, Ute Vogt . He defended this in the 2005 Bundestag election with 46.9% and in the 2009 Bundestag election with 40.7% of the first votes . With 49.5% of the first votes in the 2013 federal election , he achieved the CDU's best result in this constituency since the 1983 federal election . In his fifth federal election in 2017 , he won the direct mandate again with 36.4% of the first votes.

The Queen of the Netherlands appointed Krichbaum Grand Officer of the Order of Oranje-Nassau , in 2009 he was appointed Officer of the Legion of Honor by the French President and in 2010 he was appointed Commander of the Star of Romania by the Romanian President . In 2012 he received the Grand Decoration of Honor in Gold for services to the Republic of Austria .

Gunther Krichbaum has been a member of the Franco-German Parliamentary Assembly since 2019 .
