Heinrich Niehues-Pröbsting

Heinrich Niehues-Pröbsting (* 1946 ) is a German philosopher and historian of philosophy.

Heinrich Niehues-Pröbsting studied German and philosophy in Münster and Freiburg . He received his doctorate in 1977 from the University of Münster . This was followed by an assistantship and in 1985 the habilitation with Hans Blumenberg . Niehues-Pröbsting received a research professorship in Münster and was professor and visiting professor in Gießen , Rostock , Erfurt and Mumbai (Bombay). From 1993 until his retirement in 2011 he held the chair for the history of philosophy at the University of Erfurt . His special focus was the ancient basis of philosophical cynicism , which Peter Sloterdijk was re-shaping at the same time .

His research and teaching focuses on ancient philosophy and its history of reception , the philosophical criticism of rhetoric (especially in Plato's dialogues ) and rhetoric in philosophy (e.g. with Edmund Husserl ) and aesthetics .
