Heinrich Oidtmann III

Heinrich Oidtmann III (* July 6, 1888 ; † January 25, 1929 ) was an engineer , author and entrepreneur . He headed the Oidtmann glass painting company in Linnich , founded by his grandfather , which still exists today as a family business .

Heinrich Oidtmann attended grammar school in Jülich and after graduating from high school studied architecture and art history at the technical universities of Aachen and Munich and at the University of Bonn . After graduating as Dipl.-Ing. After the death of his father in 1912, at the age of twenty-four, he took over the management of the family business.

As a student, Oidtmann was an active member of the Catholic student associations of the KV : Carolingia - Aachen, Erwinia - Munich and Arminia Bonn .

Shortly before his death in 1912, his father, Heinrich Oidtmann , had published the first volume of the fundamental work “The Rhenish Glass Painting from the 12th to the 16th Century”. This scientific work was completed by Oidtmann III with the second volume. The two volumes are still considered a standard work on Rhenish stained glass today .

In 1921 Oidtmann married Ludovika van den Hoff (1899–1945) from the Netherlands. The marriage produced three sons.

Heinrich Oidtmann managed to successfully continue the family business during the First World War and the economic crises of the 1920s. After his untimely death in 1929, his wife took over management of the company. The sons Friedrich Oidtmann (born March 5, 1924) and Ludovikus Oidtmann (born July 23, 1928) joined their parents' business after their mother's death.
