Heinrich Runge (born December 15, 1817 in Zehdenick , † November 26, 1886 in Berlin ; full name: August Ferdinand Heinrich Runge ) was a German heraldist and curator .

He was the son of a wood and coal merchant who was also a city councilor in Berlin from 1844.

In 1851 Heinrich Runge moved to Switzerland . The reasons were the disadvantages of participating in the 1848 revolution . In the antiquarian museum of Zurich he found a job as a curator, which also required membership of the board. Returned to Berlin in 1861, he became a city councilor and member of parliament. In 1872 he was appointed city treasurer until his death. From 1867 to 1874 he was a member of the Reichstag for the Progress Party as a member of the Berlin constituency.

His heraldic merits can be seen in the effort to reissue the Zurich coat of arms . With a foreword from him in the edition, he reached the edition of the special work in 1860.

Honors

Runge is buried in the old Luisenstadt cemetery . His grave was dedicated to the city of Berlin as an honorary grave until 2017 . A street in Berlin is named after him.
