Heinrich Schüchtermann (born October 20, 1830 in Recklinghausen , † April 20, 1895 in Dortmund ) was a German entrepreneur and founder.

Life

Heinrich Schüchtermann initially worked as an independent watchmaker in Dortmund.

In 1870, together with the engineer Carl Joseph Kremer , a distant relative, he founded the mechanical engineering company Union Schüchtermann & Kremer , which developed into an important supplier to the Ruhr mining industry. The machine factory produced z. B. Coal processing and coking machines, steam engines, machines for briquette factories, filters, turbines, pumps, fans and steel structures for mining.

In 1872 Schüchtermann, Friedrich Vohwinkel and other shareholders acquired the stagnating salt works and spa business in Bad Rothenfelde and founded Rothenfelder Saline AG , of which he was a member of the board until his death.

In addition to his entrepreneurial work, the Catholic Heinrich Schüchtermann was also socially and politically committed.

In 1884, Schüchtermann contributed significantly to the establishment of the Catholic, but non- denominational St. Josefinen Foundation through a donation of real estate . maintained a soup kitchen and an asylum for disabled women. Later the St. Josefinen monastery expanded its activity and set up a restaurant for workers. It still exists today, now as part of the Catholic St. Johannes Society Dortmund gGmbH .

Schüchtermann was involved in several committees for the connection of Dortmund to the Prussian canal network ( Dortmund-Ems Canal ) and was elected to the honorary city council on December 29, 1890.

He was married to Antoinette geb. Schiller (1835-1900). The childless couple founded the Schüchtermann-Schiller'sche Family Foundation , which still exists today, in 1894 , which inherited the entire considerable fortune after Antoinette Schüchtermann's death.

The union Schüchtermann & Kremer in Dortmund and its 100 percent subsidiary treatment AG in Essen were 1927 with the Maschinenfabrik tree AG in Herne for Schüchtermann & Kremer Tree stock company for processing fused whose stock majority Schüchtermann Schiller family trust held.

Awards

Heinrich Schüchtermann was awarded the honorary title of Commercial Councilor in 1893 for his social commitment .

In 1899 the city of Dortmund set a monument to Schüchtermann. The Schüchtermann memorial designed as a fountain by the sculptor Gerhard Janensch stands on the east wall - close to what was then the Oberbergamt , later the museum on the east wall . After storm damage in 2007, the monument was repaired by the Dortmund master stonemason André Faure. However, the side well basins have been dry for years.

Bad Rothenfelde honored him with a memorial that was also created by Janensch.

The Schüchtermann-Klinik in Bad Rothenfelde, which opened in 1973, was named after him and is maintained by the Schüchtermann-Schiller'schen Family Foundation.
