Hermann Rollett (born August 20, 1819 in Baden near Vienna ; † May 30, 1904 there ) was an Austrian poet of the Vormärz , museum director, local politician , art writer and local researcher .

Childhood, youth and education

Hermann Rollett was the twelfth child of the Baden doctor Anton Rollett (1778–1842) and his second wife Josepha nee. Anger (1794–1874) was born. He grew up in a wealthy, middle-class family, attended the city school in Baden from 1824 to 1831, then the Piarist high school in Vienna. Several encounters with Beethoven , whom he met around 1825 in the presence of Nannette Streicher , were formative for him . He wrote memoirs about it and also brought together traditions about Beethoven's stays in Baden.

His father had planned for him a career as a surgeon and involved him in operations and autopsies. He did not follow this request and began to study philosophy, aesthetics, the arts of education and art history in 1837.

As a result, he decided on pharmacy, completed a pharmacy apprenticeship in the Badener Landschafts-Apotheke from September 1838 to October 1839 , then in the Viennese pharmacy in the Dorotheahof, then studied pharmacy in Vienna until 1842 .

In 1845 he became an honorary member of the Arminia fraternity in the castle cellar .

Poetry and emigration

Rollett published his first poetry on October 16, 1837; his poem An Grillparzer was published in the Wiener Allgemeine Theaterzeitung , with praise from his father. In 1842 he published the song wreath collection . After publication of the spring messengers from Austria in 1845 he had to leave Austria , lived in various small German states, monitored there and repeatedly deported from 1851 to 1854 in Switzerland .

December 1854 he returned to Baden, where he lived for a year. In 1857 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. From 1860 to 1862 he studied pharmacy again in Vienna. In his hometown of Baden he became a school councilor in 1870 and head of the city ​​archive in 1876 . As a local councilor and from 1873 as a deputy mayor, he was also active in local politics.

His wife was Meta Rollett b. Scheidlin (around 1833 to 1919), with the establishment of the Patriotic Women's Aid Association - Baden Branch , 1878, its vice-president. He was the uncle of the physiologist and histologist Alexander Rollett (1834-1903).
