Landscape pharmacy
Landschafts-Apotheken were pharmacies in Lower Austria that were built and operated by the state estates . In addition to doctors, pharmacies should still guarantee basic sanitation even in times when epidemics or other diseases are not rampant, i.e. in times when the economic prospects for pharmacies are not very favorable.
history
The totality of the estates was called the landscape and consisted of the four curiae : the lords and the knights, the prelates as well as the cities and markets . From this fact comes the designation landscape pharmacy or landscape pharmacy , which can still be found today in existing pharmacies that go back to this time. The doctors who were in the service of the estates were also referred to as landscape doctors .
The first beginnings could be seen in Lower Austria in 1560 . Especially the demand for the landscape pharmacies go back to the year 1576. First got in 1576 a respective quarter note Medicus namely in Waidhofen an der Thaya , Mistelbach , Melk and Vienna Neustadt as a landscape doctors called a bestallungscontract , which means they were made. A doctor, Paul Weidner, was appointed for the Vienna countryside beforehand . He received a salary of 250 florins for his service as a landscape doctor and as an advisor to the estates .
At the pharmacies, the documents are not so secure. According to documents from the Lower Austrian Provincial Archives , the first landscape pharmacies existed in the 1580s . They received 50 fl. Appointment . It is not known whether these were existing or new pharmacies that were taken into service in the country. The first pharmacies were in Mistelbach and Melk.
Although the number of pharmacies was repeatedly suggested due to a lack of funds, the number of doctors and pharmacies doubled towards the end of the 17th century . There were pharmacies in St. Pölten , Melk, Krems , Horn , Stockerau , Mistelbach, Wiener Neustadt and Baden .
There were similar landscape pharmacies in other federal states, such as Upper Austria, Styria and Carinthia.
