Heinrich Schalcher

Heinrich (Heiri) Schalcher (born January 3, 1917 in Wülflingen (from 1922 city district of Winterthur ), † December 14, 2006 in Winterthur) was a Swiss lawyer and politician. From 1968 to 1983 he was responsible for the Evangelical People's Party in the National Council .

Heinrich Schalcher attended business school in Winterthur and trained as a notary. This was followed by a study of law at the University of Zurich , in 1940 he was granted a notary's license and in 1949 a license to practice law. In 1954 he founded his own law firm in Winterthur.

Heinrich Schalcher was a member of the Evangelical People's Party. From 1954 to 1963 he was a member of the large municipal council (parliament) of the city of Winterthur, from 1955 to 1959 and 1963 to 1971 he was a member of the parliament of the canton of Zurich . From 1968 to 1983 he represented the Evangelical People's Party in the Swiss National Council. His roughly one hundred parliamentary initiatives dealt mainly with environmentally friendly agriculture, public health and national defense .

Schalcher was one of the pioneers in environmental policy. From 1962 to 1973 he headed the League for Organic National Defense , the predecessor organization of the Swiss Foundation for the Promotion of Organic Agriculture (today Research Institute for Organic Agriculture ), whose co-founder and first president was also Schalcher.
