Heinrich Schlueter (astronomer)

Heinrich Schlüter (* 1815 in Hamburg , † March 17, 1844 in Königsberg (Prussia) ) was a German astronomer .

Schlüter enrolled at the University of Königsberg in 1838 , where he studied with Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel , who hired him as an assistant at the observatory in 1841 . In the following years he published several articles (including work on binary stars and meteorites and a calculation of the orbit of comet C / 1843 J1 (Mauvais) ) in the Astronomical News . He died in 1844 at the age of 29.

The lunar crater Schlueter was named after him by the IAU in 1964 .
