Heinrich Ubbelohde-Doering

Heinrich Ubbelohde-Doering (born November 25, 1889 in Bonn , † December 5, 1972 in Goßfelden near Marburg) was a German American scholar and museum director.

Life

In 1923 he received his doctorate from the University of Marburg , where he qualified as a professor in 1925. In 1926 Heinrich Doering was adopted by the childless, widowed Hanna Ubbelohde, who was married to the painter Otto Ubbelohde . Before the Second World War, Ubbelohde-Doering undertook excavations as an archaeologist in Peru to study the pre- Inca period. In 1930 he became a curator at the State Museum of Ethnology in Munich. In 1933 he became the acting director of Lucian Scherman , and from 1936 until his retirement in 1956 he was director of the museum. His successor as museum director was Andreas Lommel . Ubbelohe-Doering was married to Else Hetner and had two children.
