Heinrich Waldmann

Heinrich Maria Waldmann (born February 28, 1811 in Niederorschel , Worbis district , † January 5, 1896 in Heiligenstadt ) was a Catholic priest, teacher, local history researcher and politician.

Life

Waldmann was the son of the forester Ernst Wilhelm Waldmann and Anna Maria Sussmann and attended high school in Heiligenstadt . He studied theology and philology in Paderborn and was ordained a priest here in 1840.

He was a teacher from 1840 to 1858 and then until 1873 senior teacher at the Catholic grammar school in Heiligenstadt. He was also a local researcher and author of local history works. In 1864 he wrote Eichsfeld customs and legends. In 1856 he also published a first compilation of regional field names.

During the revolution of 1848/49 he was a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly . He represented the constituency of the Province of Saxony 23 ( Heiligenstadt , Worbis ) in parliament. Waldmann belonged to the Casino faction and elected Friedrich Wilhelm IV as Emperor of the Germans. As a member of parliament, he also took part in the first meeting of the Catholic Association of Germany, which later became the Central Committee of German Catholics .
