Heinrich Wiegand (born March 26, 1906 in Schlüchtern-Elm ; † May 11, 1998 in Darmstadt ) was a German engineer.

Life

After studying general mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt , which he graduated with his diploma in 1929, Heinrich Wiegand was a university assistant to Professor August Thum from 1930 to 1933. In 1933 he received his doctorate as a Dr.-Ing. at the TH Darmstadt with the title "On the fatigue strength of screw materials and screw connections". He then became department head of the Henschel-Flugzeug-Werke AG research institute , later department head in the BMW aircraft engine plant in Berlin-Spandau, then head of department at BMW Berlin and Munich. In 1939 Wiegand received his habilitation at the TH Darmstadt on the subject of "Surface and fatigue strength" . From 1943 to 1945 he was a lecturer at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the TH Berlin-Charlottenburg (field of aviation materials). Then he switched to jet engine development at Aeroplanes G. Voisin, where he worked until 1950. Then he was managing director of the sheet metal processing research company. From 1953 to 1973 Wiegand was full professor at the TH Darmstadt for materials science and head of the institute for materials science in personal union board of the state material testing institute. In 1973 he retired.
