Life

Heinrich XLIII. was a son of Heinrich VI. (Reuss-Köstritz) (1707–1783) and his wife Enriqueta Juana Francisca Susana Casado y Huguetan , 4th  Margravine of Monteleón (1725–1761). He succeeded his father as the third paragiarist in 1783.

After the death of the Danish banker and Councilor of State Jean Henri Desmercières in 1778, most of his fortune fell to Count Heinrich XLIII., The grandson of his half-sister Marguerite Huguetan. Count Heinrich continued his work with the dike in the Reußenkooges in 1789 and the Louisen-Reußen-Kooges in 1799. Although brilliant profits were made on the sale of the two kings, he did not succeed in restoring his ailing finances. In 1808 he sold his Oktroy back to the Danish king and waived any further coverings.

From 1804, Heinrich had an English landscape park laid out in what is now the Reichenfels monument protection area . In 1806 he was raised to Prince Reuss zu Köstritz. All construction work in connection with the Reichenfels castle ruins was stopped in 1808 due to financial difficulties of the prince, so that the construction project remained unfinished.
