Depiction of Count Heinrich XXIV. Reuss zu Ebersdorf on a convention thaler from 1766

Heinrich XXIV. Reuss (younger line) (born January 22, 1724 in Ebersdorf ; † May 13, 1779 ibid) was Count Reuss zu Ebersdorf . He is the great grandfather of Queen Victoria of Great Britain and an ancestor of Queen Elizabeth II.

Life

Heinrich XXIV. Was the eldest son of Count Heinrich XXIX. Reuss zu Ebersdorf and his wife Countess Sophie Theodora zu Castell-Remlingen. He followed his father as Count zu Ebersdorf in 1747.

If his parents were still ardent supporters of the Moravian Brethren , Heinrich XXIV had less and less interest in Pietism . In Ebersdorf, once the center of this religious denomination in Thuringia, only one institutional community remained independent of the regional church, whose independence was confirmed by Heinrich in a decree of June 1, 1761. This decree also made it possible for handicrafts and trades to settle independently of guilds.

Heinrich is the great-grandfather of Queen Victoria through his daughter Auguste .
