Heinrich von Hofmann

Heinrich von Hofmann (born April 6, 1863 in Darmstadt , † July 17, 1921 in Bad Nauheim ) was a German lieutenant general and free corps leader .

Life

origin

His parents were the former Hessian Prime Minister Karl von Hofmann (1827-1910) and his wife Cora Kekulé von Stradonitz (1835-1897). The painter Ludwig von Hofmann was his brother.

Military career

Hofmann became commander of the 41st Cavalry Brigade on February 18, 1913 , which he led until November 23, 1914 after the outbreak of the First World War . He then took over as major general (since April 20, 1914) the 4th Cavalry Division and on August 31, 1916 the 195th Division , before he was given command of the Guards Cavalry Division on February 22, 1918 . After the end of the war and return home, Hofmann gave up command on December 6, 1918.
