Heinrich Ritter von Kaufmann-Asser (born August 1, 1882 in Aachen , † February 17, 1954 in Wiesbaden ) was a German ministerial official and diplomat of the Weimar Republic. He was released in 1933 on racist grounds.

Life

Kaufmann-Asser studied law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität and the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . He became active in the Corps Guestphalia Bonn (1900) and in the Corps Guestphalia Heidelberg (1901). In 1904 he was awarded the title of Dr. iur. PhD . In 1912 he joined the Foreign Service. As a one-year volunteer , he took part in the First World War and was employed in the civil administration for occupied Belgium. He resigned as Rittmeister and returned to the Foreign Service, in which he a. a. worked in Chile and Brazil. From June 3 to August 17, 1932, Kaufmann-Asser was head of the United Press Department of the Reich Government . From January 21, 1933 he was German ambassador to Argentina . After the transfer of power to the National Socialists in Germany, he was recalled on August 3, 1933 and replaced by Edmund von Thermann - because he was of Jewish descent.

Von Kaufmann-Asser was married to Erica von Breitenbach, daughter of the Prussian politician Paul von Breitenbach . His father was the economist and legal scholar Richard von Kaufmann-Asser , his brother the doctor and film producer Wilhelm von Kaufmann .
