Heinrich von Kotzau
Heinrich von Kotzau , called the Tall One (* before 1349, † after 1387) was an imperial knight and second captain of the court .
Heinrich came from the main line of the von Kotzau family with the headquarters in today's Oberkotzau . Due to the sparse references in the sources, Heinrich's parents cannot be clearly assigned by name, perhaps his father was Theodoricus (Dietrich). Heinrich often appears in documents with his older brothers Konrad and Gerhard. Even for the following generation with Nickel and Hans, it is not possible to determine whether Heinrich was their father or uncle.
Heinrich first appears in a document in 1349. He appeared as a witness in one of the founding documents of the Hofer monastery of the Murring and the Uttenhofen . In 1352 he and his brothers took part in the feud of the burgraves of Nuremberg against the sacks and game sitting at Epprechtstein Castle , which eventually led to the capture of the castle and renegotiations for the final sale to the burgraves. A lawsuit by Jacob Wild at the Eger district court briefly led to Heinrich's ostracism. As followers, Konrad and Heinrich witnessed the sale of Regnitzland twice , in 1366 from Heinrich the Red of Reuss , Vogt von Weida , to his brother Heinrich the Younger and finally in 1373 to the Nuremberg burgrave Friedrich V. Also in 1373, the two brothers vouched for the Sale of the Uprode - its first documented mention - for the von Sparneck family , with whom they were closely related.
From 1371 he held the office of judge in Hof. As captain von Hof he succeeded Fritz von Seckendorff . In addition to Erhard von Kotzau zu Rehau, he was also a participant in the Guttenberg feud in 1380 . In October 1380 Konrad von Weidenberg became captain. In 1387 Heinrich donated a cross altar for the Franciscan monastery .
