Heinrich von Stöffeln (first mentioned in 1368; † November 8, 1383 in Reichenau ) was abbot of the Reichenau monastery from 1379 to 1383 .

Live and act

Heinrich von Stöffeln came from the noble noble family of the Lords of Stöffeln, who had their ancestral seat at Stöffeln Castle on the Stöffelberg near Gönningen south of Tübingen . His brother Kuno was abbot of the St. Gallen monastery , his sister Elisabeth abbess of the Cistercian monastery Heiligkreuztal .

Heinrich had been a conventual in Reichenau Monastery since 1368 before he was elected as his successor in office after the death of Abbot Eberhard von Brandis . His abbatiat, almost four years old, was questioned until the 18th century, although he is mentioned in numerous sources and referred to in original documents as "Abbot by the grace of God and the Apostolic See".

Heinrich von Stöffeln carried out his first loan in the spring of 1380 and confirmed Radolfzell's town charter in 1381 . In 1381 he entered into the castle law of the city of Constance .

Heinrich's reign fell during the time of the schism . However, he avoided taking a stand for one of the two popes and thus kept his convent out of the internal church conflict between Popes Urban VI. and Clemens VII .

Abbot Heinrich von Stöffeln died on November 8, 1383 and was buried in the transept of the Marienchor in Reichenau Minster .
