Heinrich von dem Bergh

Heinrich Graf von dem Bergh (* 1573 in Bremen ; † 22 May 1638 ), Margrave of Bergen op Zoom and Lord of Stevensweerd , was a Spanish general.

Life

Heinrich, the seventh son of Count Wilhelm IV von dem Bergh and Maria von Nassau , entered Spanish military service like all his brothers and distinguished himself by name under Spinola so that after the end of the twelve-year armistice he was the second most commanding member of the Archduke's army Albrecht and Isabella became. Because of his military rank, he became the leader of the National Party in Belgium, which consisted mostly of wealthy nobles. She was dissatisfied with the influence of the Spaniards in the army and council and thought about joining the Dutch.

The party was without support in the people and army and was unable to go further than drafts. Heinrich fled to Liège in 1632 and called the Belgians to arms against Spain and for the Catholic religion. But few were recruited by him.

Count Heinrich ended his life in 1638 under the protection of those he had fought for forty years.

In 1612 he married Margaretha van Wittem van Beersel (1582–1627), daughter of Jan van Wittem and Maria Margaretha van Merode. The couple has the following surviving children:

In his second marriage he was married from 1629 to Hiëronyma Catharina Countess of Spaur-Flavon (1600-1683). She was the daughter of Georg Friedrich von Spaur-Flavon. The couple has the following surviving children:
