Heinz-Wilhelm Alten (born January 5, 1929 in Hanover ; † January 27, 2019 in Hildesheim ) was a German mathematician and since 1991 has been the publisher and author of the book series From Counting Stone to Computer .

Life

Alten studied mathematics , physics and chemistry at the TH Hannover and the University of Bristol from 1948 to 1955 . He laid 1954/55 the exam for teaching in secondary schools, and was from 1956 to 1961 research assistant at the University of Hannover , where he in 1961 when William Quade Dr. rer. nat. received his doctorate.

In 1961 he became chief engineer and in 1966 chief assistant. In 1973 he received a full professorship for mathematics at the PH Lower Saxony , Hildesheim department.

From 1979 to 1981 he was the first rector of the Hildesheim University of Applied Sciences, today the University of Hildesheim . From 1982 to 1985 he headed the computer science working group in preparation for the computer science course . From 1986 to 1993 he was Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Natural Sciences. Since 1990 he has headed the “History of Mathematics” working group he founded. Since 1997 he has been emeritus at the Institute for Mathematics and Applied Computer Science (IMAI) at the University of Hildesheim.
