Heinz Höhne (composer)
Heinz Höhne (* 1892 ; † 1968 ) was a Berlin pharmacist and composer . Heinz was common as a short form of Heinrich. His melody to Rudolf Baumbach's poem High on the Yellow Car , which he composed in 1922, became popular.
Life
Höhne came from a musical family. He received violin and composition lessons and began composing songs at the age of 12. After the First World War , he completed his apprenticeship as a pharmacist and studied pharmacy at the University of Berlin . After the state examination in 1923, he joined the Adler pharmacy in Berlin-Pankow (Breite Strasse, corner of Berliner Strasse). He married the daughter of the owner Carl Teschner and took over the business from him in 1937.
Since the 1920s he had earned a certain reputation for his folk compositions. They were also broadcast on the radio. He became a member of the NSDAP and, for a few years before 1936, headed the party's local cultural office, an organ for bringing cultural life into line.
After nationalization in the GDR in 1946, he became head of several state- owned pharmacies in and around Berlin. In 1965, at the age of 73, he retired from professional life and died three years later.
