Heinz Jörg Fuhrmann

Heinz Jörg Fuhrmann (born December 4, 1956 in Duisburg ) is a German iron and steel engineer and industry manager .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1975, Fuhrmann studied iron and steel engineering at RWTH Aachen University , graduating in 1980. He then became a research assistant at the VDEh Business Research Institute (BFI) in Düsseldorf .

In 1983 Fuhrmann became a consultant in the technical business administration of Klöckner-Werke AG in Duisburg. In 1986 he took over the management of the corporate strategy department. In 1990 he became an authorized signatory in the processing / technical organization department. In 1992 he was appointed director and head of the mechanical engineering department . In 1993 he took over the management of the main controlling department in the holding company of Klöckner-Werke AG.

In addition to his professional activity, Fuhrmann continued his education at the Akad-Hochschule , developed the dissertation Integrated Planning Model for the ore supply of a European coastal steelworks , with which he received his doctorate in 1990 from the TU Berlin .

On August 1, 1995, Fuhrmann moved to Preussag Stahl AG of Preussag AG and, as a general representative, was in charge of central corporate planning. On October 1, 1996 he became a deputy member of the board and in 1997 a full member with responsibility for the heavy plate area as well as for the subsidiaries and affiliated companies. In 1998 the company was transferred to Salzgitter AG and in 2000 the Mannesmannröhren factory was taken over . On January 1, 2001, he became responsible for the extended areas of controlling, finance and accounting, investor relations, information technology and taxes. In this position he made a major contribution to the reorientation towards steel, tubes, trade and services. In 2007 he became Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management and was responsible for the technology department that was newly formed after the takeover of Klöckner-Werke AG. On February 1, 2011, he took over as CEO of Salzgitter AG.

Fuhrmann has been a member of the VDEh since 1978, and was appointed to its board in 1998. In 2000 he joined the board of the steel trade association . In 2008 he became honorary professor at the Faculty of Georesources and Materials Technology at RWTH Aachen University. On January 1, 2014, he was elected to the Senate of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft , and became its chair on January 1, 2016.
