Heinz Krieger (born December 26, 1943 ) was a soccer player and played at the height of his career from 1967 to 1975 for Sachsenring Zwickau in the GDR Oberliga , the highest soccer division.

At the beginning of the football season 1964/65, Krieger came from Dynamo Dresden to the GDR upper division club BSG Wismut Aue . However, he was never used in the league team. In 1965, BSG Motor Wema Plauen, playing in the second-class GDR league, was urgently looking for talented players, because in their first second division season 1964/65 they had only just been able to secure relegation. Since Plauen was in the catchment area of Wismut Aue, Krieger was delegated to BSG Motor Wema together with his junior colleagues Peter Marquardt and Wolfgang Uhlig. Krieger immediately became a regular player in Plauen and played all 30 point games of the 1965/66 league season and was mainly used as a right midfielder.

In 1966 Motor Wema Plauen was close to promotion in the league with 3rd place, in the 1966/67 season there was no more talk of it with 5th place. So at the beginning of 1967 Krieger left Plauen in the direction of Zwickau to the current third division and GDR Cup winner . In his fifth league game for Zwickau on March 15, 1967, he broke his leg against Wismut Aue of all places and had to pause for over a year. He made his comeback on the 24th Oberliga matchday on May 18, 1968 in the home game against FC Hansa Rostock (1-0).

After Harald Irmscher moved to FC Carl Zeiss Jena , Krieger was able to assert himself in the Zwickau league team and took over Irmscher's position in midfield in 1968. By the end of the 1975/76 season, Krieger had completed 137 league point games over the course of nine seasons, scoring 17 goals. He missed his greatest triumph in 1975 when his team was again GDR Cup winners, but he was not part of the roster of the winning team.

At the age of almost 33, Krieger ended his senior league career in the summer of 1976 and joined the third-rate district division BSG Wismut / Rotation Crossen , where he worked as a coach until 1987.
