Harald Irmscher (born February 12, 1946 in Oelsnitz / Erzgeb. ) Is a former German football player in the GDR league . As a national soccer player of the GDR, he was part of the DFV's only World Cup participation and also worked as a coach for the East German soccer association .
Athletic career
BSG and club stations
Harald Irmscher began to play organized football for the BSG activist Karl Liebknecht Oelsnitz in 1955 . Until 1962 he worked there in the school and youth teams and then moved to the GDR upper division BSG Motor Zwickau , where he was initially employed in the junior division and also completed an electrician apprenticeship.
Irmscher played his first league game as a half-right striker on August 9, 1964 in the encounter between Motor Zwickau and Lok Stendal (2-1). After becoming an A national player for a good two years, those in charge of the GDR Association expected Irmscher to join a top club in the East German football landscape.
This took place after the top division season in 1967/68 with the change to the newly crowned GDR champions FC Carl Zeiss Jena . With the Jena team, Irmscher became GDR champions in 1970 and GDR Cup winners in 1972 and 1974. After 202 top division point games, 38 national and 42 international cup games, Sir , his nickname, ended his involvement with FC Carl Zeiss in 1976. He then moved to the second-rate GDR league for BSG Wismut Gera , with which he rose again in 1977 for a year in the league. At the end of the 1977/78 season Irmscher ended his career as an active football player in the higher class area.
National player
On October 10, 1963, the 1.81-meter-tall midfielder made his first international appearance when he played the first of his four international junior matches. After Irmscher had played his first of seven junior international matches on September 5, 1965, his career in the senior national team began on September 4, 1966 in the encounter between the GDR and Egypt (6-0).
In October 1974 he wore the GDR jersey for the last time in the game against Scotland . In total, Harald Irmscher made 41 international matches with four goals or, according to FIFA standards , 36 appearances with 3 goals.
He took part in the 1974 World Cup with the GDR national team. From 1967 to 1972 he played twelve official games with the GDR's Olympic team and took part in the 1972 Olympic Games , where the GDR team won the bronze medal. Irmscher was not used in the game for 3rd place.
Trainer
After his playing career, Irmscher became a junior coach in Jena. From 1983 he was then assistant coach of the GDR national team under Bernd Stange . In 1988 the coaching team was recalled after a 3-1 defeat in Turkey. In 2005 Harald Irmscher was again assistant coach of Bernd Stange - this time at the Cypriot football club Apollon Limassol . In the winter break of 2006/2007 Irmscher was terminated for economic reasons. Then Stange also left the club. From July 2007 to 2011 he was again in charge of the Belarusian national team as an assistant coach at Bernd Stange's side .
