Heinz Lewerenz

Heinz Lewerenz (born September 21, 1890 in Bielefeld , † August 31, 1939 in Bad Wiessee ) was a German expressionist painter from the East Westphalian city ​​of Bielefeld. He is assigned to the Bielefeld Modernism (1907–1926) and Westphalian Expressionism .

Life

After completing a commercial apprenticeship, Heinz Lewerenz worked in a pattern drawing studio. He then attended Ludwig Godewols' class at the Bielefeld School of Crafts and Applied Arts from 1909 to 1914. There he met Peter August Böckstiegel and Victor Tuxhorn , among others . Heinz Lewerenz was a member of the artist group “Rote Erde” in Bielefeld before he took part in the First World War from 1914 to 1918. This was followed by studies at the Art Academy in Dresden with Otto Gussmann . 1919 Lewerenz was together with Herbert Behrens-Hangeler and Hermann Freudenau a founding member of the artist community "Der Lurf". At the same time he also took part in exhibitions of the “ Novembergruppe ” and the “ Die Schaffenden ” group in Dresden

From 1923 Lewerenz was head of the design class for applied painting at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Kassel. In 1937 works by Heinz Lewerenz were confiscated and destroyed by the National Socialists.
