Heinz Ohme

Heinz Ohme (born June 12, 1950 in Zehdenick ) is a German Protestant theologian with a focus on church history .

Life

Heinz Ohme studied Protestant theology in Berlin and Tübingen. From 1975 to 1977 he was an ecumenical fellow of the Church of Greece in Thessaloniki. In 1979 he was ordained pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria . From 1979 to 1983 he worked as a consultant for relations with Orthodox churches in the EKD's external church office in Frankfurt / Main. Subsequently, he was entrusted in addition to the parish office 1983-1990 with the management and establishment of the preparatory college for Orthodox scholarship holders of the EKD in Erlangen.

The doctorate to Dr. theol. took place in 1989. After completing his doctorate, Ohme was a research assistant at the Chair for History and Theology of the Christian East with Karl Christian Felmy at the Theological Faculty in Erlangen from 1990–1996 . In 1995 Ohme completed his habilitation there for the subject of church history.

1996–2015 Ohme was university professor at the chair for ecclesiastical and religious studies / Eastern Church Studies at the theological faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin , of which he was dean from 2003–2005. One focus of his research is the history of the Council , in particular the study of the Concilium Quinisextum .

1992–2011 Ohme was a member of the EKD committee for the bilateral theological dialogue with the Romanian Orthodox Church . From 2010 to 2014 Ohme was 1st Chairman of the Society for the Study of the Christian East (GSCO).
