Karl Christian Felmy

Karl Christian Felmy (born February 13, 1938 in Liegnitz / Silesia ) is a German theologian . He was originally Protestant, specialized in his academic work on the Eastern Churches and converted to the Russian Orthodox Church.

Life

After graduating from high school, Karl Christian Felmy studied Protestant theology in Münster and Heidelberg from 1958 to 1964 . From 1964 to 1969 he was an assistant at the Ostkirchen-Institut in Münster. In 1970 he was with a dissertation on the subject of preaching in Orthodox Russia. PhD studies on the content and character of Russian sermons in the second half of the 19th century .

After his ordination , he worked from 1971 to 1975 as a consultant for orthodoxy at the EKD's external church office in Frankfurt and then assistant to Fairy von Lilienfeld's chair for the history and theology of the Christian East in Erlangen . In 1981 he received his habilitation in Erlangen.

After a stopover as a pastor in Fürth , he was professor of denomination from 1982 to 1985 at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1985 he was appointed to the chair for the history and theology of the Christian East at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . Between 1995 and 1997 Felmy was Dean of the Faculty of Theology. Felmy retired on March 31, 2003.

In 2007 he converted to the Russian Orthodox Church .
