Heinz Pöhler

Heinz Pöhler (born February 16, 1919 in Waldau ; † September 21, 1989 ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending the Protestant elementary school in his birthplace Waldau , Pöhler went to the middle school in Kohlfurt , where he obtained the secondary school leaving certificate . In the Reich Labor Service he achieved the rank of field master and in the Wehrmacht he became a sergeant and reserve officer applicant. In World War II he was wounded several times. After the end of the war he came to the Lower Rhine as a displaced person and became an editor at Rhein-Echo .

Political party

From 1945 Pöhler got involved in the reconstruction of the SPD and the Young Socialists . In 1948 he became district chairman of the Jusos on the Lower Rhine and also their state chairman in North Rhine-Westphalia . Three years later he took over the chairmanship of the local sub-district of the SPD and was also elected to the district executive of the SPD-Niederrhein. In the 1950s he was a member of the Central Youth Committee and the Security Committee of the SPD party executive.

MP

Pöhler had been a councilor in Mönchengladbach since 1948 . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1953 to 1972. He was also a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe , where he headed the Committee on Population and Refugees in 1972/73. In the North Atlantic Assembly , to which he also belonged, Pöhler was chairman of the committee for civil affairs in 1971/72.
