Heinz Hermann Strobl (born February 2, 1920 in Munich ; † March 3, 1993 ibid) was a German municipal official. From 1978 to 1985 he was tourism director for the city of Munich.

Career

Strobl grew up in Munich. He attended elementary school on Columbusstrasse from 1926 to 1930 and then moved to the New Realgymnasium, which he graduated in 1936. On November 18, 1936, he entered the service of the City of Munich as a trainee office and was employed in the tax office at the city's main office. The appointment to the civil service took effect on October 30, 1937. On April 1, 1939, he resigned for the time being, in order to complete the compulsory labor service until December 26, 1939 .
The unleashing of the Second World War determined the further development. After two months in the city's main treasury, he enlisted for military service on February 23, 1940. During his leave from the front in 1942/43, he took part in a war course in Garmisch-Partenkirchen for the exam for the high-level community administration service, which he passed in February 1943 with grade 2 and number 3. Towards the end of the war he was taken prisoner, from which he returned on August 2, 1945. On August 20, 1945, he took up service in the traveling trade department of the municipal trade office, but was dismissed from municipal service two weeks later, on September 6, 1945, for political reasons.

After an arbitration chamber procedure that classified him as a simple member of the NSDAP as a follower, he was hired again on October 1, 1947. In the trade office he was initially concerned with questions of trade freedom, from 1949 on with the hotel and restaurant trade. During this time he attended a six-semester course at the Administrative Academy in Munich, which he completed on July 4, 1951 with a diploma examination (grade: fully satisfactory ). On December 1, 1951, he moved to the economic department and became a clerk for the Oktoberfest . In this function he introduced Oktoberfest advertising in 1952 and the following year initiated the poster competitions for Oktoberfest and Carnival, which have been held annually since then. In June 1955 he took over the management of the tourism department and in June 1956 was appointed director of advertising for the department.

On the basis of a memorandum submitted by him, the Munich Tourist Office was created in September 1960 and he was the advertising director of the newly created office. Between November 1965 and April 1966 he played a key role in Munich's - ultimately successful - application for the 1972 Summer Olympics . In 1967 he became the deputy director of the tourist office and was its director from June 1978 to February 1985, succeeding Otto Hiebel. After his retirement he took care of the Oktoberfest Museum.

From 1949 Strobl worked as a freelance journalist for the mountaineering program of Bayerischer Rundfunk and wrote for several large daily newspapers and magazines in the travel and alpine sectors.
