Heinz Teufel (photographer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinz Teufel (* 1949 in Hennstedt ) is a German photographer from Eckernförde and has been working for Geo magazine since 1978 . Heinz Teufel is co-inventor and namesake of a high-quality printing process called diavography ("Diavolo" = Italian for "devil") and developed his own style in 2000 under the term "gestural photography". One of his reports for Geo was voted the best picture story of the magazine's first 20 years in a 1996 readers' poll. He was named "German Photo Master 1997" by the German Association for Photography . Heinz Teufel also works as a speaker at the Leica Academy.

life and work

From 1970 to 1975, Heinz Teufel studied sculpture, graphics and painting at the University of Applied Sciences for Design in Kiel (now the Muthesius Academy of Art ). He completed his studies as a qualified designer .

Teufel understands “gestural photography” as images in which the contours of the motifs dissolve in motion. Shapes and colors are mixed together, but the motif remains recognizable. It is crucial that the effect is mainly created by the movement of the camera (through a " gesture ") during the image capture.
