Heinz Thomas (historian)

Heinz Thomas (born November 28, 1935 in Gotha ) is a German historian .

Heinz Thomas studied history and German at the University of Bonn . After the state examination, he received his doctorate in Bonn in 1966 for a thesis on the history of Trier in the 11th century, supervised by Eugen Ewig and Helmut Beumann . In 1972 he also completed his habilitation at Ewig in Bonn with the work Between Regnum and Imperium. The principalities of Bar and Lorraine at the time of Emperor Charles IV . Since 1973 he was an adjunct professor in Bonn. From 1980 until his retirement he taught as a full professor for Medieval and Modern History at the University of Bonn. Thomas presented an authoritative account of Ludwig the Bavarian and a comprehensive political history of the German late Middle Ages. In 2000 he published a description about Joan of Arc .
