Heinz Tovote (born April 12, 1864 in Hanover , † February 4, 1946 in Berlin ) was a German writer .

Life

Heinz Tovote was the son of a reindeer . He attended grammar school in Hanover and then studied philology and philosophy at the universities of Göttingen and Berlin , where he qualified as a professor in general literature . Then Tovote turned away from his academic career and lived as a freelance writer in Berlin from 1889 .

Heinz Tovote was a writer of novels and short stories . His early works, influenced by naturalism and contemporary French literature (especially Maupassant ), deal with erotic themes from decadent metropolitan society ; his later works, however, can be classified as trivial literature. Tovote was a very successful author of the Wilhelmine era ; in particular his debut novel Im Liebesrausch , published in 1890, achieved high editions well into the twenties .
