Heinz Wewering (born January 28, 1950 in Albachten near Münster ) is a German trotting athlete .

On April 1, 1964, Wewering began a three-year training course at Erich Speckmann's trotting stud in Everswinkel . After the intermediate examination, he was allowed to participate in races since 1965. At the end of May 1965 there were first placements, on September 13, 1965 the first victory took place with Morgan vom Veeinghof (Gestüt Messmann). In 1967 Wewering passed the professional driver test. In 51 years he competed in over 51,000 trotting races. Since 1977 he has won the Golden Helmet 29 times in a row as the German championship of drivers, at the same time he was champion of professional trotting trainers 28 times. Wewering has won four European championships, in 1993 and 1997 he also won the world championships. On June 18, 2003 he achieved his 14,899. Victory. With this world record, Wewering became the most successful harness racing driver of all time.

Wewering has been employed in Italy since mid-2006 and has given up his stud in Germany. On August 22, 2006 he was able to get his 16,000 here. Celebrate victory. At the beginning of 2008 Wewering came back to Germany, where he was employed as head coach at Marion Jauss until July 2010. Since August 1, 2010, Wewering has been the head coach of Ulrich Mommert, the chairman of the racing club of the Mariendorf Trabrennbahn in Berlin, and his wife, the amateur driver Karin Walter-Mommert. He was released in April 2012.

Wewering has a son and a daughter. His son Oliver drove trotting for several years; The highlight of his driving career was winning the German Trotter Derby in 1999. Wewering's daughter Marie-Charlott passed the amateur driver test in 2008 and has been racing in trotting ever since.
