The Dresden-Reick thermal power station is a thermal power station operated by DREWAG in the Reick district of Dresden . It was built in the 1970s in connection with the major construction project in Leuben , in which 3500 prefabricated apartments were built in a very short time . The Reicker cogeneration plant served to supply the new apartments and went into operation in 1976.

The power plant's chimney, which was renovated in 2008–2011, was 200 meters high and was the second tallest structure in Dresden after the television tower . It was dismantled from late summer 2017 to June 2018, replacing two smaller, almost 50-meter-high steel chimneys. The reason for dismantling the chimney was that the power plant had to be in operation for at least 8 hours a day in order to avoid moisture damage to the oversized chimney.
