The Heidelberg thermal power station provides heating , steam and cooling and feeds the electricity produced into the public supply network of the Heidelberg municipal utility. The operator is RWE Innogy . It is located on the northern edge of the Neuenheimer Feld in the Handschuhsheim district .
The customers are the Heidelberg University Hospital , the German Cancer Research Center , the local technology park and a Max Planck Institute . The plant has a district heating output of 162 MW and an electrical output of 13.5 MW.
The 120 meter high chimney of the Heidelberg thermal power station is the tallest structure in Heidelberg .
