The Plauen combined heat and power plant is a combined heat and power plant operated by Envia Therm GmbH in the Saxon city of Plauen .
history
The plant was commissioned in 1988 as a pure heating plant . Originally, fuel was lignite . In 1994, the heating plant was converted to run on natural gas, and operation with light heating oil as a reserve fuel was also made possible. In the course of the conversion to natural gas, the construction of an additional gas turbine was discussed, which turned out to be uneconomical.
Due to the benefits of the Mineral Oil Tax and CHP Modernization Act, it was planned to set up a separate power generation facility in the heating plant. Finally, a tender followed in 2000 and the heating plant was expanded into a heating and power plant for one million euros.
In April 2013, the previous operator WVP - Wärmeversorgung Plauen GmbH was merged with envia THERM GmbH , a subsidiary of Envia Mitteldeutsche Energie, with retroactive effect from the beginning of the year .
technology
Heat generator
The thermal power station has four boilers with 28 megawatts each. The 171.7 meter high chimney is the tallest structure in Plauen.
Power generation
The temperature and pressure gradient between live steam (12.7 bar, 250 ° C) and useful steam (6.7 bar) made it possible to retrofit a tandem turbine unit. This unit, built by Kühnle, Kopp & Kausch , consists of two counter-rotating steam turbines and a generator that can provide 50 kW to 1,300 kW of electrical power. This system can cover the electrical energy requirements of the thermal power station.
District heating network
The Plauen thermal power station feeds a thermal output of up to 150 MW into the district heating network, which supplies 16,000 apartments with heat as well as industrial companies, a hospital and other customers with steam. In addition to the thermal power station, there is another heating center in this district heating network. A special feature of the district heating network is the 90 m vertical drop.
