Hej Sloveni (He, Slavs ) was the national anthem of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and its successor states, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (1992-2003) and Serbia and Montenegro (2003-2006) , from 1945 to 2006 .

The original Slovak version Hej, Slováci (He, Slovaks ) was the national anthem of the Slovak state from 1939 to 1945 .

history

Croatian text version in a publication of the Croatian Partisan Movement ( ZAVNOH ) from 1944

The song was accepted as the “national anthem of the Slavs” (which was particularly strongly supported by Slovaks, Slovenes, Croats, Serbs and Poles) at the Slavic Congress in Prague in 1848 as part of the Pan-Slavic movement.

The Slovak Samuel Tomášik is responsible for the text, who originally wrote it under the title Hej, Slováci (He, Slovakia) (this version is still used in Slovakia today). He used the melody of the Polish anthem Mazurek Dąbrowskiego as a template. The song was also the official anthem of the Slovak State (1939–1945).

Four different texts existed for the national anthem of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia , namely Serbo-Croatian - Ekavian ( Hej, Sloveni ), Serbo-Croatian- Ijekavian ( Hej Slaveni ), Slovenian ( Hej Slovani ) and Macedonian ( Ej, Sloveni ). The Serbo-Croatian versions can be found below, all four versions in the article Hej, Sloveni of the Serbo-Croatian edition of Wikipedia.

Texts

National anthem of Yugoslavia

Serbian

Hej Sloveni, jošte živi

Duh naših dedova,

Dok za narod srce bije

Njihovih sinova.

Živi, živi duh slovenski

Živećes vekov'ma

Zalud preti ponor pakla

Zalud vatra groma.

Nek se sada i nad nama

Burom sve raznese

Stena puca, dub se lama,

Zemlja nek se trese.

Mi stojimo postojano

Kano toilet

Proklet bio izdajica

Svoje domovine.

Croatian / Bosnian

Hej Slaveni, jošte živi

Riječ naših djedova

Dok za narod srce bije

Njihovih sinova.

Živi, živi duh slavenski

Živjet ćeš vjekov'ma

Zalud prijeti ponor pakla

Zalud vatra groma!

Nek se sada i nad nama

Burom sve raznese

Stijena puca, dub se lama

Zemlja nek se trese

Mi stojimo postojano

Kano toilet

Proklet bio izdajica

Svoje domovine!

German translation

Hey Slavs, still alive

The word of our forefathers

As long as the heart for the people

Your sons beats

Alive, alive is the Slav spirit,

He lives for centuries

The abyss of hell threatens in vain,

In vain the beam of lightning.

Like now about us too

How storms dissipate everything

May the rock shatter, the oak burst,

The earth shake.

We stand steadfast

Like cliffs

Curse the traitor

His homeland.

Original version and national anthem of the Slovak State (1939–1945)

Slovak

Hey, Slováci, ešte naša

slovenská reč žije,

Dokiaľ naše verné srdce

za náš národ bije.

Žije, žije, duch slovenský,

bude žiť na veky,

Hrom a peklo, márne vaše

proti nám sú vzteky!

Jazyka dar sveril nám Boh,

Boh náš hromovládny,

Nesmie nám ho teda vyrvať

na tom svete žiadny;

I nechže je koľko ľudí,

toľko čertov v svete;

Boh je s nami: kto proti nám,

toho parom zmetie.

I nechže sa i nad nami

hrozná búra vznesie,

Skala puká, dub sa láme

a zem nech sa trasie;

My stojíme stále pevne,

ako múry hradné

Čierna zem pohltí toho,

kto odstúpi zradne!

German translation

Hey Slovaks, still alive

our Slovak language,

as long as our faithful heart

for our people.

The Slovak spirit lives,

he will live forever

Thunder and Hell, yours is in vain

Rage against us!

God gave us the gift of language

our God ruling thunder,

it is allowed to us in this world

no one to run away;

And even if there are so many devils

as there are people in the world

God is with us: whoever is against us

Perun sweeps it   away.

And even if about us too

a terrible storm rises

the rock leaps, the oak breaks

and the earth trembles;

we stand still

like castle walls.

The black earth swallows

who treacherously steps aside!
