Hej Sloveni (He, Slavs ) was the national anthem of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and its successor states, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (1992-2003) and Serbia and Montenegro (2003-2006) , from 1945 to 2006 .
The original Slovak version Hej, Slováci (He, Slovaks ) was the national anthem of the Slovak state from 1939 to 1945 .

The song was accepted as the “national anthem of the Slavs” (which was particularly strongly supported by Slovaks, Slovenes, Croats, Serbs and Poles) at the Slavic Congress in Prague in 1848 as part of the Pan-Slavic movement.
The Slovak Samuel Tomášik is responsible for the text, who originally wrote it under the title Hej, Slováci (He, Slovakia) (this version is still used in Slovakia today). He used the melody of the Polish anthem Mazurek Dąbrowskiego as a template. The song was also the official anthem of the Slovak State (1939–1945).
Four different texts existed for the national anthem of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia , namely Serbo-Croatian - Ekavian ( Hej, Sloveni ), Serbo-Croatian- Ijekavian ( Hej Slaveni ), Slovenian ( Hej Slovani ) and Macedonian ( Ej, Sloveni ).
