content

Herwig Müller is one of many. Six thousand to be precise. The Deutsche Automobilwerke want to lay off so many workers so that they can continue to play in the international market in the future. But then the company headquarters is blown up, and with it the chairman of the board, Friedemann von Tilsit, who is suspected of corruption. Germany and television front woman Sabrina van Dreesen agree: Such an assassination was long overdue. And suddenly Herwig Müller is a wanted assassin nationwide. Which of course is nothing more than a tragic mistake. But this error brought Herwig more attention in a few days than he had ever received from his wife, child or employer before in his life. And Herwig is not only a real hero for Sabrina van Dreesen. Everything could be so beautiful, if it weren't for the scheming machinations of Vice President Heidlinde Waghausen. And who, in Herwig's name, carried out all these attacks on the German automobile works? And why does head technician Hinrichsen have to die? Question after question. And none will go unanswered in this story. Germany is experiencing a hot spring.

reception

Held Müller bears the subtitle “A German Musical” , and Peter Lund calls it “a really bad piece with surprisingly beautiful music” , and thus tries “within the scope of a musical - the connections between work and capital, the dependencies on TV Presenters from producers and television directors to discuss the interplay between the international market and national interests. ” The result is a political play about poor, sorted out unemployed people and the evil auto industry , with Lund venturing beyond the reality of the Federal Republic of Germany.

“Lund's characters are ideal-typical characters designed to be quickly recognizable, who in this way are allowed to acquire cabaret-satirical comedy, but also tragic depth.” So the hero portrayed in the play is actually an anti-hero. The 58-year-old Herwig Müller, who has been a worker at Deutsche Automobilwerke for 35 years, has a silent role in the play. He is not angry, he would submit if you let him. When his wife also left him because she couldn't stand his bravery anymore, Müller would like to be driven to death, but everyone skilfully curves past him. But when he gets into the wanted list of the investigation, Müller's best time begins, because now even his son admires him, and his wife also wants him back. On television she begs him: “Please get in touch!” The shrill, media-overloaded world, however, pulls him into the stands, glorifies him as the hero of a new liberation of workers, celebrates him as a savior.

Ballad chansons and rhythmic rock ensemble numbers with many rough edges are sung, which Zaufke created with Broadway- typical smack.

Press reviews

  • "The plot by Held Müller is impressively simple, constructed in a dramaturgically exciting way and downright ideal for our time and this place" Ekkehart Krippendorff: Hero without Will, derFreitag Online from May 12, 2006
  • “The Neukölln Opera hits the bull's eye [...] Peter Lund and composer Thomas Zaufke have given the Neukölln Opera an anti-musical that makes the efforts of our major Berlin opera houses look old-fashioned. [...] 'Held Müller' is a melodramatic revolutionary farce, media scolding and malicious cabaret in one. [...] The story is a flawless German contemporary disaster, exaggerated into the lunatic [...] Zaufke's earwigs crawl unerringly into the brain and into the feet anyway. " (Volker Tarnow, Berliner Morgenpost)
