The Heldsmühle was a water mill with an undershot water wheel on the Fluit (Flöt) in the city of Korschenbroich in the administrative district of Düsseldorf .

geography

The Heldsmühle is located on the Fluit, An Heldsmühle, in the Trietenbroich district, in the town of Korschenbroich. The area on which the mill building stood has a height of approx. 43 m above sea level .

Waters

The Fluit (Flöt) was a small stream that, together with the Trietbach, drained the extensive Hoppbruch. It ran parallel to the Trietbach and flowed into the Trietbach from the left near the Looshof. Below the Nonnenmühle , the Trietbach flows into the Niers on the right .

The Niers (GEWKZ 286) in its old river bed supplied numerous mills with water for centuries until the river was straightened . The Niers rises in Kuckum , a district of the city of Erkelenz . The Niers has a total length of 117.668 km and a total catchment area of 1,380.630 km 2 up to its confluence with the Meuse near Gennep (Netherlands) . The source is 73  m above sea level. NN , the mouth at m above sea level. NN . The Niersverband is responsible for the care and maintenance of the water .

history

The Heldsmühle stood by the Fluit, named after the miller and baker Wilhelm Held. It was built around 1800 by a certain Hothen. Originally it was called Pletschmühle , which was probably a bit of an exaggeration given the modest drive ratios. No wonder then that they four times the in the first half of the 19th century owner changed. The penultimate of them had brought in additional water from the Trietbach via a moat . But the mill was only able to run regularly under Wilhelm Held, when a steam engine was added to the notoriously sluggish water wheel in 1866 . But then luck ran out: in 1882 the Heldsmühle burned down and was no longer replaced.
