Helene Benndorf

Helene Benndorf , b. Richter (born May 17, 1897 in Schandau , † January 2, 1984 in Radebeul ) was a German librarian .

Live and act

Helene Benndorf was the daughter of the lawyers Hans Woldemar Richter (* 1862) and Johanna Helene Richter (* 1869). After graduating from high school, she studied German language and literature in Munich from 1917 , history in Tübingen and economics in Leipzig . In 1923 she was awarded the title of Dr. with Die Forsten im Amte Moritzburg and its historical significance until the end of the 18th century. phil. PhD .

With a successful training as a librarian, with a passed traineeship at the Saxon State Library and the Leipzig City Library , Helene Benndorf passed her examination for higher library service in 1925. In the meantime she worked in the Saxon State Library and the City Library until she was in charge of the Wettin House of Secondary Education Library from 1926 until it was closed in 1928. In 1929 she left because of her marriage.

Towards the end of the Second World War she worked as a librarian again. From 1948 to 1958 she worked as a director at the Technical University of Dresden ; thus she was involved in the reconstruction of the almost destroyed university almost from the beginning. She got involved with the university to the extent that she installed a bookbinding and a photocopying station; she was also responsible for the rebuilding of the destroyed subject catalog, but also for the establishment of the university central catalog and the reopening of the patent literature office. In 1957, thanks to their efforts, the library extension was inaugurated.
