Helenium aromaticum is a species of the sunflower family (Asteraceae). Originally from Chile, it gives off a distinctive smell of apples or gummy bears when touched.

description

Helenium aromaticum grows as a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 30 to 45 centimeters. The whole plant smells of gummy bears. Their almost spherical inflorescences are yellow. The bottom of the cup is bare. The achenes have a pappus .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 34.

Occurrence

The original home of Helenium aromaticum is Chile . It occurs there in the regions of Coquimbo, Maule, O'Higgins, Santiago and Valparaiso. There it is called "Manzanilla del cerro" or "Manzanilla del campo". It thrives in sun or partial shade.
